10 Classic Albums That People Originally Hated
1. Pinkerton - Weezer
The arrival of Weezer on the alternative rock scene could not have come at a better time for rock fans. After the devastating blow of losing Kurt Cobain in 1994, Rivers Cuomo's open-hearted dorky love songs were exactly the kind of lighthearted music that we needed to hear. Once they started to make actual sad songs though, you better believe some people were p*ssed off.
For a good few years after its release, Weezer's sophomore effort Pinkerton was known as the pariah of these nerd rockers' catalog, worthy to be put into the shadows of the rock scene. It's not hard to see why either, given that most people weren't ready for Rivers to drone on about his sex life, inner feelings, and overall uncomfortable personal life across these infectious melodies. However, things started to take a bit of a different course after the '00s.
Looking back on it now, this is probably the 2nd best record Weezer has ever made, as it tells the tragic story of Rivers losing his will to carry on being a rock star and resorting to whatever he can find to soothe his pain. The hate was that bad too, with Weezer breaking up for a good few years before re-emerging in the '00s with the Green Album. For as much as people may have liked to deny this one back in the day, this is the kind of raw beauty that you get once every career.
