10 Classic Music Albums Turning 20 In 2022

6. The Process of Belief - Bad Religion

For a few brief years, Bad Religion had really lost a core part of their identity. While the sound of their music has always been the same from day one, the late '90s saw guitarist and lyricist Brett Gurewitz step away from the band to manage Epitaph Records, leading to a few years with spotty songs from time to time. The band looked like a shell of themselves without Brett, so hearing of his return was going to be one hell of a ride.

While The Process of Belief is already a slamming record by Bad Religion, there seems to be a new lust for life in the air here, with songs like Supersonic waking you up right from the moment the record starts and sustains itself all the way to the very end. Brett isn't the only strength here though, and Greg Graffin's socio-political commentary is as sharp as it's ever been, especially with an axe to grind on songs like Materialist.

One of the biggest strengths to this album though has to be the change in lineup, with Brooks Wackerman taking the reigns behind the drumkit and unleashing hell on nearly every single track he plays. It had been two decades since the fire started with Bad Religion, but that didn't mean that they were any less hungry than they were the first time around. The world was still going through Hell, and Graffin was the voice that we all needed to hear.
