10 Classic Rock Bands That Got Better After Selling Out
4. David Bowie
David Bowie was always one of the most eccentric personalities the rock world had ever seen. With each change in trend and style, Bowie found a way to shift his styles to blend in with whatever was popular at the time. On the other hand, even a chameleon has to get comfortable in their own skin at first.
Bowie's initial attempts at rock music were a far cry from his elaborate costumes and leaned more into the vaudeville tradition. With tunes that were centered around lavish arrangements, Bowie could tell that this style was just not clicking with audiences in the way he wanted it to. Once he started noticing the rise in more glam-centric artists, Bowie took his first step into rock history by introducing his Major Tom character on "Space Oddity." While many may have seen this as aping glam trends, Bowie proved he not only could pull off the glam look, but dominate the entire landscape.
In the coming years, Bowie turned himself into one of the greatest musical visionaries in the world, with characters like Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, and the Thin White Duke becoming part of his musical identity. Though this change may have come out of nowhere, it wouldn't be the last time Bowie would wow us with his musical shifts.
