10 Classic Rock Bands That Got Better After Selling Out

3. Queen

Throughout each of their albums, Queen have always had a certain amount of gravitas to their presentation. No matter what type of adventurous pursuit you go through in life, chances are Queen has got the ideal soundtrack for the occasion. Though the band are known for their singalong hits, their original iteration was ambitious in a much different way.

At the start of the band's career, the loud guitars and multiple movements of their songs put them more in line with prog rock, with Freddie Mercury even going so far as to create a fictional fantasy world called Rhye that he would set some of his songs in. Even the band's opus a Night at the Opera featured "The Prophet's Song," whose sound featured an array of disparate musical passages.

Once the band reached the nest decade, they knew their more pompous movements had no place in the era of disco. With albums like the Game and Jazz, the band were shifting their sound into something much more palletable for the standard pop fan, with songs like "Another One Bites the Dust" not only becoming great rock tunes, but fantastic feats of songwriting. The band may have been looking for more fans, but they did the near-impossible by getting respect from both the rockers and the average music fans in equal capacity.
