10 Classic Rock Bands That Never Made A Bad Album

8. Thin Lizzy

When transitioning to the harsher side of rock, a bunch of the riff crafters of the '70s seemed to lose their edge in the lyrical department. While there were exceptions like Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple in the mix, most other hard rock acts just needed to write a handful of decent riffs and pad out the rest with odes to nonsense. There was definitely a need for something more, and Thin Lizzy fueled that with Phil Lynott's pen.

Across every single one of Lizzy's albums, Lynott proved that he had what it took to be on the same level as someone like Bob Dylan, crafting mini stories within the span of a single song. As much as a focus was on the lyrics, the actual melodies of these songs never lost their crunch in the process. While something like Jailbreak may have a killer scene being set in the lyrics, you never forget that opening sting of guitar once you hear it for the first time.

Even just before Lynott was taken from us due to his ongoing battle with heroin addiction, Lizzy just kept getting heavier with edge, with Thunder and Lightning boasting even more feral material like Cold Sweat. Though their luck may have run out on the charts more often than not, the work of Lizzy has been the hard rock bible for those looking to up their game in the lyrical department.
