10 Classic Rock Bands That Never Made A Bad Album
3. The Police
In an era dominated by punk rock, the idea of the Police even making it at all felt like an anomaly. Compared to the rudimentary playing style that was coming from people like the Sex Pistols and The Clash, Sting's sophisticated melodies along with Stewart Copeland's tight drumming style felt like the antithesis of the mainstream at the time. It should have been too...had Sting not have had a master's touch at crafting melodies.
In just under a decade, the Police managed to ride the new wave hype train to its logical conclusion, becoming one of the biggest names in music once the '80s opened up. Throughout the journey upward though, they always managed to push their sound a bit further, whether it was Sting's use of different bass frequencies across albums like Outlandos D'Amour or Andy Summers making some of the most complex sonic landscapes on songs like Walking on the Moon.
By the time they had actually decided to call it quits after Synchronicity, they had already made themselves into an institution of pop music, creating some of the most timeless melodies of the modern age on songs like Every Little Thing She Does is Magic and Every Breath You Take. Remaining zany, off the wall, and just the slightest bit dark in places, the Police's music can probably be considered timeless at this point.
