10 Classic Rock Songs That Push The 7-Minute Mark

1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-XI) - Pink Floyd

http://youtu.be/9zACEJdFOpA Perhaps the most obvious song to appear on this list, but aren€™t you thankful no-one shouted €œFree Bird!€ at all throughout this piece? A near-album length ode to their fallen leader Syd Barrett, Shine On You Crazy Diamond might just mark the one time when a classic rock band did a stupidly long song €“ and got it right. The entire nine-part composition rolls like a never-ending waltz over cosmic fog, standing as a testament not just to the band but to classic rock as a whole. For all its scale, the song retains a spine-tingling sense of humanity when one reads any interview/biography of the band about the making of this album and Syd Barret himself wanders into the studio, perhaps just as the band are recording this very song.
