10 Classic Songs That Aren't As Serious As You Think

5. Jambi - Tool

The amount of esoteric writing going on in Tool's lyrics are a bit much for your average rock fan to take in at the best of times. After all, this is a band who has a whole song talking about the Fibonacci sequence while also using that same pattern as the rhythmic structure and the core message behind one's travels through life. Suffice to say, it can a bit complicated, most of the time.

When talking about 10,000 Days, most of the lyrics on here can be heavy hitting, down to Maynard James Keenan pouring his heart out for his mother midway through things on the Wings for Marie suite. Considering what we heard on Lateralus though, many took Jambi to be the title of their song based on the meter with which the actual lyrics are sung. So to think that it actually came from children's programming is actually kind of funny in retrospect.

That's right, the actual construction of the title came from Pee Wee's Playhouse, when drummer Danny Carey remarked that one of the new songs they were working on reminded him of Jambi the Genie from the same show. While there's a lot to take in on pretty much any Tool release, this was still a nice reminder that the band didn't totally disappear up their own ass when they got serious.
