10 Classic Songs That Aren't As Serious As You Think

4. Delilah - Queen

Rock and roll has come with its fair share of love songs over the years. Whether it be for carnal reasons or just devotion, even Queen have found themselves writing about objects of their affection from time to time, with Freddie Mercury penning one of the greatest of all time in Love of My Life. In the back half of their career though, that affection was directed toward a much furrier inspiration.

For anyone that didn't know, Mercury was an avid cat lover throughout his life, even having up to 4-6 different cats towards the end depending on who's story you believe. Alongside such classics as The Show Must Go On on Innuendo, Delilah is a cute aside when Mercury sings an ode to one of his cats, almost as if they were a long lost loved one.

As much as something like this could come off as corny for any other band, Freddie is selling it so hard that it can't help but come off as endearing. Though the idea of him singing to his pet might have been a step down from his own mortality on the Show Must Go On, it still works as a charming move regardless. Queen's last days were bound to weight heavy on each band member, but it's songs like these that show they still had a playful side.
