10 Classic Songs That Have Aged Terribly
6. One In a Million - Guns N Roses
It's always important to give bands the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the poorly aged parts of their catalog. As much as we may like to dunk on them nowadays, there's a good chance that songs like this fared a lot better at the time than what we have to look back on. Then again, a song like One in a Million by Guns N Roses probably had a few people turning their heads even back then.
Being thrown onto the back half of the acoustic EP GNR Lies, this entire song paints Axl Rose as one of the most unlikable frontmen in the history of rock and roll. Though it's always somewhat excusable to have singers put on a chauvinistic vibe, the sound of Rose browbeating people of different races and sexual orientations just looks ignorant in the rearview.
It gets especially awkward when he decides to throw out homophobic and racist slurs in the middle of his verses, despite his assurance that the use of those words was to "provoke." Even though it's every artist's right to get on a soapbox if they want to, this is the equivalent of an Alex Jones rant set to music.
