10 Classic Songs That Secretly Inspired Oasis
8. With a Little Help From My Friends - The Beatles
So... have y'all ever heard of this obscure band called the Beatles? Well, you bet your ass that Oasis certainly have, with Liam Gallagher always citing John Lennon as an influence and name checking the group's songs in almost every other song back in the day. This inspiration went a little further when the band needed that extra '60s touch on She's Electric.
From the outset, this whimsical little song off of What's the Story Morning Glory seems like a long lost Beatles cut, almost picking up right where Digsy's Dinner had left off. When you start to pick apart the vocal melody though, the outro of the song sticks out like a sore thumb. While we've been cruising for most of this song in this Britpop wonderland, the ending of the song is the same kind of grand finale that the Beatles use at the end of the song With a Little Help From My Friends.
There are also a few more subtle hints at some more Beatles cuts a few more times in this exact song, especially when Liam goes for the high notes in the chorus, which sounds oddly similar to the kind of vocal inflections that George Harrison used when making the chorus of While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Then again, would you expect anything less from a band that writes lyrics like "blood on the tracks/must be mine/ Fool on the Hill and I Feel Fine."?
