10 Classic Songs That Secretly Inspired Oasis
6. The One I Love - R.E.M.
For as much as they call themselves a straight up rock and roll band, Oasis have always had one foot planted squarely in the realm of alternative rock. While they may have worn some of their primary influences on their sleeves, you can still hear the alternative leaning bands from Manchester seeping into almost every song they write. That's not to say that they couldn't find some inspiration from across the pond.
From the moment it starts, the song Morning Glory is an absolute belter, with the entire song being about wondering what the hell you had done last night. Throw it side by side with The One I Love by R.E.M and while the melodies are 100% different, the backing tracks behind everything are eerily similar, with echoing rhythmic foundations for the songs as well.
This one might be considered a bit of a stretch, but I would like to pose a challenge to any of the mash up artists or musicians reading this. Throw on the backing track of Morning Glory and then play the main riff from The One I Love at the same time and tell me you don't notice how well they fit.
