After announcing their reunion show in a typically melodramatic fashion on Halloween of 2019, My Chemical Romance revealed that they had actually clandestinely reunited in 2017. Being back together two whole years before announcing their reunion tour, the band would have had plenty of time to write and record new material.

While some fans might be sceptical about this (after all, the band didn’t premier any new songs during their 2019 show), many have speculated that even if MCR does have new material up their sleeves, they won’t release it until they’ve completed their upcoming world tour, giving long-time fans a chance to hear the classics before dropping brand-new tracks.

But if they haven’t been writing and recording new material since 2017, fans would be right to wonder what exactly the band has been up to since then. Given that it takes roughly a year for a record to be written, recorded and produced, it is more than feasible that the band took that time to either start a new album from scratch or finish the discarded Paper Kingdom sessions they were working on before announcing their break-up.

It might be wishful thinking, but given that the band’s reunion tour has been delayed by two years, there’s every chance that MCR might even be working on a sixth album behind the scenes...
