10 Clues My Chemical Romance Are Gearing Up To Release A New Album
8. Gerard Way Teased New Music That Suits The Band's New Aesthetic
In late 2018, lead singer and comic book legend Gerard Way announced in a blog post that he had written a “kind of heavy” song ‘I Am The Hag’, stating that he was thinking of releasing it in 2019. The post was accompanied by a picture of an eerie witchy mask draped in a black cloak, not too unlike the costumes seen in the band’s ‘An Offering…’ video.
As fans know, Way never did drop the song. A few months later, My Chemical Romance announced their reunion show and revealed a series of symbols apparently inspired by tarot cards, which have a strong association with witchcraft.
As ‘Hag’ is often synonymous with witchcraft in folklore, this connection has led some to speculate that the heavy track will appear on an upcoming My Chemical Romance album. The idea of a heavy MCR song is particularly exciting given that many fans were disappointed by the lighter, poppier direction final MCR album Danger Days steered towards.
Even more convincingly, scrapped album The Paper Kingdom reportedly was meant to be a concept record centred around a support group for parents who had lost their children. To cope with this tragedy, the parents collectively dreamt up a fantasy world where their children were actually alive, fighting a witch in the forest.
Way’s teased song suggests that the band may be circling back to this concept, giving fans hope that the world will get to hear MCR5 after all...
