10 Clues My Chemical Romance Are Gearing Up To Release A New Album

6. Conventional Weapons Clues

When Frank Iero announced the release of Conventional Weapons, a scrapped album recorded between The Black Parade and Danger Days, he teased that its songs would “shed a little more light on how and where Danger Days came from, and maybe even where the future of MCR might be heading.”

Of course, the future of the band seemed to be short-lived, as just a few weeks after the final songs from Conventional Weapons were released as a double A-side single, My Chemical Romance called it quits. Suddenly, Iero’s statement seemed vacuous, and any hopes for a raw and rocky garage-rock follow-up to Danger Days were destroyed.

Reading Iero’s Conventional Weapons statement now, it seems that the guitarist was already aware even then of the band’s forthcoming break-up. The long statement reflects on a time when MCR almost imploded after The Black Parade, and looking back it seems as though Frank was trying to prepare fans for the worst.

Maybe by “where the future of MCR might be heading”, the guitarist wasn’t talking in terms of musical direction (given the promotional materials they’ve released since 2019, it doesn’t seem as though we’ll be getting a straightforward Conventional Weapons-esque guitar rock album anytime soon); perhaps instead he was letting us know that fans would see the release of more scrapped material at some point in the future.
