10 Cool Things You Didn't Know About Hozier

10. He Was Earmarked For Success

Hozier grew up on a very rural existence that he characterises as 'countryside farm stuff', although not without some degree of privilege. He attended St Gerard€™s, a progressive private school in Bray with roots in the Montessori movement, whose pupils include the children of singer-songwriter Chris de Burgh, actor Daniel Day-Lewis and leading Irish concert promoters Denis Desmond and Caroline Downey (who now manages Hozier). His singing talent was developed in the choir and highlighted during blues performances at school talent shows, and at 16 he became a soloist with the Irish choral group Anuna. He knew he wanted to be a singer-songwriter, even if he didn€™t know what he wanted to say or how he was going to say it.

I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
