5. Melody Prochet - Melody's Echo Chamber
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waEoKZIa0S4 Why isn't this woman a superstar? Melody Prochet (with the assistance of her Echo Chamber) is currently the leading light of French musical cool; no mean feat given the amount of staggeringly brilliant French artists that are erupting onto the scene, most notably Lou Dillon and Maia Vidal. But that's not even a quarter of the story; this is an artist to die for, so tune in right away. On the most basic level, Melody Prochet looks the part; vampish, reminiscent of a young Catherine Deneuve, seemingly a femme fatale not to be messed with. But it's the songs that seal the deal there's a swagger to Melody that simply can't be taught. The lyrics deliver an attitude that will leave you beguiled, she tells beautiful, modern stories of the heart, body and soul of the modern woman, changing character between the heartbreaker and the heartbroken, the hunter and the hunted. And let's not forget the power of her music which is fantastically psychedelic space rock, showing the boys how a guitar should sound and be played, and then some. The arrangements match the sentiment of the songs wonderfully - 'Some time alone, alone' will knock your head off, 'I follow you' will have you blubbing like a baby. Her one album so far was produced by her partner, Kevin Parker from Tame Impala, and it blows his band away. Yep, she's that good. Melody may not be a global superstar yet, so let's give the rest of the planet some time to catch up when she releases album number two this year. I for one can't wait to see a legion of 'Melodyistas' out there. There, we have a name for the movement already, so let's get started.

What makes music fantastic? Star quality, amazing music, breathtaking lyrics and the ability to bring something new to the table, even if that means a new take on the classics. That's what I love to listen to and write about.
