Originally By: Soft Cell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nO_P4BH4pA Soft Cell's Tainted Love is one of the defining songs of the sound of the 1980s. Its synthesiser-based instrumental makes it one of the most recognisable songs of the decade, not to mention a floor-filler and party classic even over thirty years after its initial release. The Marilyn Manson version of the song, on the other hand, is not quite so dancefloor-friendly. Taken from the soundtrack to comedy film Not Another Teen Movie, the new version of the song is practically unrecognisable. The easy-listening synthesisers are out, and in their place are distorted guitar samples. As for Manson's delivery of the song, his menacing vocals actually do a great job in highlighting the lyrics of the song, which are a lot more angry and bitter than Marc Almond makes them sound. "Don't touch me please I cannot stand the way you tease", actually sounds a lot more effective when it's being almost screamed by Marilyn Manson than sung sweetly on the more recognisable 1980s version of the song. In fact, the 2004 remix is so far removed from the original that it stands up perfectly well on its own.
My name is Daniel and I live in Newcastle. Nothing makes me happier than excellent pop music, big hair or a C-list celebrity having a Twitter meltdown.
