10 Cover Versions No One Saw Coming

5. Susan Boyle - Wild Horses

Originally By: The Rolling Stones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yb3XAP0c8WU The world watched as Susan Boyle became an overnight sensation thanks to her appearance on Britain's Got Talent. She eventually became runner up in the competition, and was signed immediately to Simon Cowell's record label SyCo. While she got busy recording her debut album I Dreamed A Dream, everybody wondered what kind of material she'd be releasing. What nobody could have predicted was that Susan Boyle's debut single would be a cover of a Rolling Stones track. However while the Stones' original is gritty and guitar-led, the Susan Boyle cover slows everything down and turns the track into what is almost a torch song with simple piano accompaniment. This allows her to really show off her voice, which she manages to do perfectly on her recording of the song, which makes for a totally different listening experience to the original. It's unusual, but we'd say it works.
