8. Seether
Hailing from South Africa, Seether is possibly the definition of Hard Rock. They were heavily criticised in their early days for being a heavier Nirvana. I can see why people got this impression but influences are always a factor in a bands early years, before they come into their own. Seether have evolved and blossomed into one hell of a band. With five studio albums under their belt theyve really shown their range of talents. Their second album,
Disclaimer II, was a recompilation of their first album with some new tracks. This album featured two versions of the hugely popular Broken, with and without Amy Lee of Evanescence. As well as Broken, the album had the awesome songs Fine Again, Fuck It and Cigarettes. It was a big debut for Seether. After the success of their first albums, Seether released three more albums, containing such classics as Remedy, Rise Above This, Country Song, The Gift, Fake It, No Jesus Christ, Here and Now and Tonight. All of these songs show off Seethers ability to go from heavy, anger-imbued tracks like No Jesus Christ to the uplifting Rise Above This. Frontman Shaun Morgan has an instantly recognisable voice, he can croon like Kurt Cobain (That was probably a reason for comparisons too), and he can scream with the best in the business. Seether is a great band, truly underrated. Their songs range from ok to brilliant but nothing bad and Morgans voice is able to pull some songs above their station. Their latest album wasnt as heavy as their older stuff, which is disappointing, but its still a great album. Im sure everyone has heard of them before, if so go back and listen to them again, if not check them out now! How they arent bigger is beyond me.
