7. Alkaline Trio
For a band that have been around since 1996 and produced eight studio albums, Alkaline Trio are very underrated. Referred to as punk rock, the trio have survived multiple line-up changes to become more and more polished with each outing. I find it particularly difficult to pigeon-hole these guys in a genre, their first two albums were very much punk, sounding reminiscent of old Green Day at times, but have since became more melodic and emotional. Thats not to say their early stuff wasnt emotional, but not as much so as their latest releases. Alkaline Trios fast paced style with Matt Skibas perfect punk voice leading the group make them a force to be reckoned with. They have a distinct sound that separates them from the myriad of similar bands who originated around the same time. Having listened to lots of their music but not everything, I have yet to hear a bad song, which is impressive to put it mildly. Alkaline Trio should be huge. Its somewhat frustrating that after 17 years and so many great albums they arent held in higher regard than many other younger bands with substantially less talent. Some of their best songs include Mercy Me, Private Eye, Crawl, I, Pessimist, She Lied To The FBI and Rooftops.
