10 Criminally Underrated Linkin Park Songs

8. In Pieces – Minutes To Midnight (2007)

Minutes to Midnight was the first Linkin Park album that really challenged expectations. The band moved away from the nu-metal tones which defined their first two albums and crafted a more experimental project.

Indeed, Minutes to Midnight is essentially an alternative-rock record with Bennington taking the lead on almost all of the songs. ‘In Pieces’ is no exception, and as one of the deeper cuts on the album, it’s an easy tune to overlook.

In addition to the catchy drum patterns from Rob Bourdon, the track excels at building momentum. The traditional verse-chorus structure is much more subtle, with each section of the song building in intensity and volume rather than following a loud-quiet dynamic.

What’s more, the guitar solo is terrific. Though Brad Delson’s best solos can be found on The Hunting Party, his work on ‘In Pieces’ is still one of the highlights on Minutes to Midnight.
