10 Criminally Underrated Linkin Park Songs

7. Powerless – Living Things (2012)

Linkin Park closed out their fifth album with ‘Powerless’, and whilst it’s not the best closing number they’ve ever done, it’s still a terrific tune which deserves more credit.

‘Powerless’ transitions smoothly from the previous track (‘Tinfoil’) and begins with a simple piano melody set against an ambient-style backdrop. Like ‘In Pieces’, the track is great at building momentum, and though there’s no guitar solo, the finale is the perfect way to end the record. The combination of Bennington’s soaring vocals and the instrumental climax is the most moving part of the album.

The lyrics are also worthy of mention. They focus on the difficulty of watching a friend suffering from addiction without having the power to help them. It’s a dark way to close out the album, but the emotive vocal delivery and the lyrical imagery gives the song plenty of sincerity.
