10 Darkest Rock Music Albums Of The 80s

2. Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables - Dead Kennedys

The cardinal sin that comes from every single punk rock band is not having anything meaningful to say. Even though they seemed more like a manufactured product, the Sex Pistols always had a message behind their songs, even if it was just about spreading total anarchy wherever they want. This was a new decade though, and the world was getting a lot darker if the Dead Kennedys had anything to say about it.

Created in the same political vein as someone like the Clash, Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables was a lot more blunt that any other punk rock album that was coming out at the time, looking to give the new kids an education about the real problems happening in the world. It doesn't just ease you into it either, like the song Kill the Poor talking about the big wigs patting themselves on the back for having the neutron bomb and being able to blow everyone to smithereens at any time.

Along with being able to play their asses off, Jello Biafra almost sounds like he's foaming at the mouth from one song to the next, like when he's warning the yuppies that come to his shows about the heinous acts going on overseas in Holiday in Cambodia. This kind of band might not have been around for terribly long after a few years, but these are the kind of songs that you'll never be able to forget once they hit you over the head.
