10 David Bowie Songs That Will Make Your Life Better

6. Absolute Beginners (1986)

Taken from the soundtrack to the film of the same name - and far exceeding it in terms of success - this mid-era Bowie ballad is considered by critics to be one of his final great songs, with the singer having the chance to unfurl his voice with a luxurious, almost Sinatra-esque croon over its skyscraping chorus.

The song reunited him too with Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman on piano, who previously tinkled the ivories on the distinct chords of Life on Mars?, while many of the musicians were retained for his recording of Dancing in the Street with Mick Jagger shortly afterwards.

Something of a culture vulture, Mr Steel can historically be found in three places; the local cinema, the local stadium or the local chip shop. He is an avowed fan of franchise films, amateur cricket and power-chords.
