10 Deep-Cut Alice Cooper Songs Every Rock Fan Should Check Out

3. Cold Machines

At the turn of the century, Cooper once again decided to embrace the sounds of the times and thrust his cane in the direction of industrial metal. Whether or not this was done to directly compete with the likes of Marilyn Manson is beside the point, as Brutal Planet is such a great album that any notion of trend-chasing can be easily forgiven.

From start to finish it's chock-full of great tunes like Gimme, Sanctuary, and the barn-burning title track, but buried right at its tail end is its most unsung, and genuinely brilliant track - the icy stomper Cold Machines.

An eerie intro soon gives way to a bombastic military-esque stomp and chugging riff that sets the tone perfectly. Soon come the lyrics that detail an unknown human searching for his beloved in a cold, uncaring Orwellian future. No matter what the powers that be do to him, he refuses to have his mind and emotions removed and the impassioned chorus hits hard.

Musically, it bears many similarities to its contemporaries, but Cooper's ever-brilliant lyricism and powerful vocals really do make a case for him being a master of any genre he turns his attentions to.
