10 Deep-Cut Ghost Songs That You Need To Listen To

8. Spirit

Often seen as the high point of their career, Meliora was the album that saw Ghost go from oddball curiosity to a fully-fledged headlining act that could fill large venues and even headline Bloodstock.

Taking all the best ingredients from their first two albums and seasoning them to perfection with a much more grandiose scale and block-buster production truly was the recipe for success and album opener Spirit should be all the proof you'd need.

Immediately starting with a fusion of gothic bells and a theremin build-up, it teeters on the edge of being utterly ridiculous until the guitars and drums kick in, giving way to that recognisable Ghost sound we've all come to love. From there it builds and swells, offering up plenty of twin-guitar action, and military-esque stomp before building to a truly sublime climax.

It's a wonderfully over-the-top track that may just be one of the most dynamic and interesting within the band's catalogue. One that perfectly fuses the band's spooky aesthetic with a tightly focused rock number that isn't afraid to veer into anthemic rock territory - acting as a predecessor to future albums Prequelle and Impera.
