10 Disappointing Albums By Legendary Bands
1. Be Here Now - Oasis
After the massive success of What's the Story Morning Glory, Oasis had officially reached a level of success where they were too big to fail. While the press may have had their problems with the Gallagher brothers off the stage, songs like Wonderwall and Don't Look Back In Anger became anthems by themselves, putting them in the same league as other legendary British bands like The Jam and The Smiths. The next logical step was to go even bigger, but there was one problem...there was nowhere else to go.
Admittedly being stoned out of his mind during the making of this record, Noel Gallagher has made mention numerous times about how Be Here Now is far from the greatest Oasis record, with songs that go on for way too long and mountains of overdubs that seem to drown each other out half the time. For all the Beatles worship that's on a track like All Around the World, most fans weren't ready for the 9 minute version of the song, complete with key changes and a huge orchestral section at the end.
Then again, this isn't an album that's disappointing in the traditional sense. The songs on here are fairly decent and you can still hear the band that wrote Supersonic poking through the cracks here. This was just too much to take in all at once, and watching the band come off the tracks made for more than just a bad album. This was the sound of the Britpop movement finally coming to an end and cost the band their momentum.
