10 Double Albums Worth Hearing Start To End

6. Rolling Stones - Exile On Main Street

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-atuvoMXVw A remarkable masterpiece, Exile On Main Street is a stunning blend of rock and blues, spiced up with a good amount of soul, country and gospel. Originally the album received poor reviews and was critically considered a failure, but it has since gone on to achieve the true appreciation it deserves, and is now considered by many to be the Stones finest work. Recorded partially in France and completed in Los Angeles, Exile was created during a rough period for the Stones. Truly exiled to France due to British taxes, the band were out of their element and had to be creative, using Richards' basement as a recording studio. Tax evasion was not the bands only problems during this period. Drug abuse, particularly Richards' well documented heroin use, was a problem during these sessions, often causing him to miss whole sessions. Musical differences had crept in too, as Jagger, tired of rock and roll, wanted to be more experimental. Sessions featured a variety of players, often missing significant parts of the band. A truly outstanding album, Exile is very raw, almost grunge-like. The loose, rootsy songs are given a glorious kickstart by the finer gospel touches, inspired by a visit to a local evangelical church. Exile stands out as one the Rolling Stones greatest masterpieces. Best of Album 1: 1. Loving Cup 2. Sweet Virginia 3. Tumbling Dice Best of Album 2: 1. Let It Loose 2. Happy 3. Shine A Light
