10 Dumbest Decisions Rock Bands Have Ever Made
4. Paul McCartney's Cinematic Vision
Having rock stars trying to make the move to the big screen isn't always the worst thing in the world. Hell, as far back as the '50s, giants like Elvis Presley were just as big for their movies as they were for their singing. Although Paul McCartney managed to make it pretty well as an actor during the Beatles' tenure, Give My Regards to Broad Street is one of the single dumbest moves that Macca had ever tried.
Written in one of McCartney's slumps during the '80s, this whole movie felt like a fever dream than anything else when looking back on it. Looking to track a man's day through the power of music, most of this movie and accompanying album just comes off as a massive ego trip for McCartney, with songs that are blatant retreads of his Beatles' days.
While the goal was probably to breathe some new life into these songs through different arrangements, no one really wanted to hear an updated version of these tunes when the songs themselves were already perfect to begin with. Even though the golden age of rock and roll movies was still in effect, this isn't going to give Purple Rain a run for its money any time soon. People might give U2 some grief about how they looked in Rattle and Hum, but that more pompous attitude actually showed up just a few years before.
