10 Dumbest Decisions Rock Bands Have Ever Made

3. U2's iPhone Controversy

And speaking of U2, there's practically a laundry list of grievances that the rock community has had with these lads from Ireland for years now. Aside from their more political bent through the years, there are more than a few missteps from Bono that have made him look like more of a rock and roll villain than the hero that he likes to claim himself to be. Although the band's legend status isn't questioned anymore, the Songs of Innocence roll out is definitely a chip in their legacy.

Looking to switch up the normal album rollout format, Bono's new idea for U2 was to partner with Apple to release the album exclusively with iTunes. While the actual idea had not been all that bad on the surface, listeners were a little more restless when they found a new U2 album on their iPhone that they didn't want.

Yeah, instead of taking the sensible route and have it available for free on your iTunes, U2 thought it was a better idea to release their new version Big Brother style by cramming it on every user's iPhone without asking. Although the album did financially well either way, this was a big turn off for fans, not even giving them so much as a choice to decide whether the album was good or not. Songs of Innocence may in fact still be a great record, but next time ask us if we want it, eh?
