10 Essential Albums From 2019 You Need To Hear
2. Clipping - There Existed An Addiction To Blood
Daveed Diggs has become a pop culture phenomenon as of late. From Broadway (Hamilton) to the big screen (The Little Mermaid), the man has run the gamut of the entertainment industry. So much so that many fans were wondering how his next project with his band Clipping would turn out.
TALK ABOUT A LEFT TURN! This record came out in mid-October and is without question one of the most unsettling releases of the year. Taking inspiration from horror movies, Diggs uses his lyrics to take on topics of murder, monsters, and violence. Each of the songs seem like separate vignettes that work as a miniature horror movie being played out in your mind.
The real horror comes from the fact that Diggs more often than not sings to you, the listener, about these situations as if we are the victims of these gruesome events. These songs leave you with an unsettling feeling in the pit of your stomach while bringing an added excitement that makes you come back for more. If you're not into the horror genre, this may not necessarily be your jam this year. But if you're even slightly curious, this album makes for a delightfully disturbing treat.
