10 Even More Underrated Red Hot Chili Peppers Tracks
2. Dreams Of A Samurai (2016)
The last album from the Chili Peppers was fairly well received, but even 10 years after John Frusciante left the band it still felt like critics and fans were yearning for that vintage rock sound.
Josh Klinghoffer had a tough ride with the Chilis. He had some big boots to fill, but this was the record were he seem to come into his own, and this track demonstrated it.
Coming in at over 6 minutes it was one of the longest numbers on the album. In a fairly unusual but not unpleasant approach the band included the addition of a piano. The track was a swirling medley of intricate melodies bubbling beneath the surface, with intermittent outbursts of tidal guitar breaking through the choruses.
Josh Klinghoffer is a damn talented guitar player and he was certainly the best choice when it came to replacing Frusciante. In many ways it's a shame he wont get to develop his working relationship with the band further.
But with the return of Frusciante, their upcoming album is set to be one of the most anticipated rock records of 2022.
