10 Famous Bands With Rotating Lineups
1. Queens of the Stone Age
Once the rest of the stoner rock movement got underway, it was pretty clear that the first incarnation of Kyuss had done all that they could do together. Any other forward movement would have turned them into sell outs, but Joshua Homme wasn't looking to just sit on his hands and retire from music either. He wanted something more than just a normal band, and Queens of the Stone Age quickly turned into one of the most elaborate collaborations in rock history.
Because throughout their entire history, there has hardly been a consistent lineup for any of the Queens of the Stone Age projects. Going through their rough around the edges debut up to the modern day, Josh tends to have a few friends that he loves jamming and normally ends up holding onto them for a little while before getting a different set of guys in the room with him. While most people are fond of the Songs for the Deaf lineup with Nick Oliveri and Dave Grohl, there's so much more to explore on later albums, from Julian Casablancas turning in time on Era Vulgaris to Mark Lanegan being the unsung hero of the band with how much his raspy tone mixes in with Josh's smoky voice.
For just a taste of what they can do, Like Clockwork is practically a sample of every kind of weird that Josh is able to pull out of his musicians, from bringing back familiar faces like Dave Grohl and Nick Oliveri to having strange additions like Elton John and Trent Reznor come in and bring their own flair to their respective tracks. Queens were never ones to just make the same album twice, and if you're going to make a new experience on every record you put out, you're going to need some more people to get it.
