10 Famous Bands With Rotating Lineups
9. Megadeth
There's a good case to be made for calling everything Megadeth has done to be the Dave Mustaine Experience. Coming off the heels of being shown the door by Metallica, the whole premise behind the band was to make a big enough thrash outfit to rival Dave's former bandmates, with songs that were more technical and heavier than what Metallica could do. It's debatable whether or not Megadeth is exactly a better act than Metallica, but any musician that has come through their ranks can definitely play circles around anything James Hetfield and co. have ever done.
While the original incarnation with Gar Samuelson and Chris Poland worked well coming from the jazz world, it wasn't long before things got out of control with drugs, with both of them being sacked shortly after the tour for Peace Sells. Ever since losing Gar and Chris, both the lead guitarist and drummer slot has practically been a revolving door, with Marty Friedman laying down some great solos during the Rust In Peace to now having Lamb of God's Chris Adler behind the kit in more recent years on records like Dystopia.
With every new member, you can also hear Dave's tastes change ever so slightly, from the pure thrash of the early days to writing more accessible stuff in the '90s until finally finding his way back to the metal that birthed him on albums like the System Has Failed, with Chris Poland even coming back to play solos. Everyone dreams of being in a successful metal band, but getting a gig with Megadeth is basically just being one of Dave's employees.
