10 Famous Bands With Rotating Lineups
8. Black Sabbath
For a goof portion of die hard Ozzy Osbourne fans, Black Sabbath didn't have any business continuing on after the Prince of Darkness left his throne. The brooding sounds of his voice were practically irreplaceable, and his amazing solo career was proof enough that his reputation as a rock and roll drunk wasn't going to slow him down, especially with Randy Rhoads by his side. Sabbath wasn't Ozzy's band though. It belonged to Tony Iommi, and he was going to do everything he could to keep it rolling.
Launching back into the '80s with Ronnie James Dio behind the mic, Heaven and Hell turned into the career renaissance most Sabbath fans had been waiting for, taking the common tropes of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and incorporating that into their sound. While it might have cost them substituting Bill Ward for Vinny Appice, that was just the beginning of the shakeups, including a period where Tony Iommi was the only active member of the band to the '90s where we had people like Ice T guesting on Sabbath records.
The real unsung hero behind keeping the band afloat though was Tony Martin, steering Sabbath through some of their dark times in the '90s before being dropped to bring in Dio and Ozzy on occasion when they decide to tour. The Sabbath that we know today is now a thing of the past, but each member should be proud with coming up with some of the most demonic rock and roll that the world had ever seen.
