6. Alex Turner
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7M2sHr-htDk Lets be honest, Alex Turner is musical royalty. As the chief architect behind Arctic Monkeys success and a first-rate poet with a deft ear for conversational rhythms, his genius knows no bounds. Well, apart from his breaking up with the ultimate Topshop Princess, rock star too that was Alexa Chung. But aside from that blip, Turner has not kept his exceptional gifts exclusive to one venture. Around the time of the Monkeys' second LP, he turned his attentions to the Last Shadow Puppets, a collaboration with long-time friend Miles Kane. This side-project dealt in epic Scott Walker-esque string-laden pop that seemed to beg Cubby Broccoli to let the head Monkey moonlight as the full-time Bond theme composer. The success of LSP saw Turner turn his hand to actual film soundtracks, as he provided the music for Richard Ayoades Submarine. Breaking out the acoustic guitar for five songs inspired by the film's introspective tone, Turner later re-recorded EP highlight Piledriver Waltz with his parent band for their fourth record, Suck It And See.
Worth the (solo) effort? Worth answering the question? A prolific song-writer capable of distilling his talents into types of music outside of his comfort zone. The mark of a future legend.
