10 Famous Rock Albums That Were Almost Called Something Else

6. Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon (Almost Called “Eclipse”)

Thanks in part to its all-time great album cover, The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd remains a fixture of pop culture even though it came out all the way back in 1973.

It may as well be engraved on a stone tablet, it's so old.

With estimated sales figures of between 25 and 45 million units worldwide, this is one of the best-selling albums in history, but all those customers very nearly handed over their cash for a record called something else.

The Dark Side of the Moon was the original working title for the album, but plans were changed when it was discovered the band Medicine Head had released a record with the same name the previous year. In response to this, the Floyd work was retitled Eclipse, after the song of the same name.

However, once the Medicine Head album failed to sell, Floyd relished the opportunity to re-claim the title, and the rest is history.

Why was the Machine Head album such a failure? Was the music not very good? Or had Roger Waters been out at night, stealing copies from local record stores to sabotage them? Both are plausible.
