10 Famous Rock Albums That Were Almost Called Something Else

5. Bon Jovi - New Jersey (Almost Called “Sons Of Beaches”)

If there is a level higher than Cloud 9, then Bon Jovi were on it following the release of Slippery When Wet.

A worldwide sensation, the album catapulted the long-haired rockers to megastardom; a perch they haven't come down from since. It sold 12 million copies in the US alone, and several more million worldwide, thanks to songs like You Give Love a Bad Name, Wanted Dead or Alive, and Livin' on a Prayer.

When the time came to release something else, Bon Jovi had the choice to give it a serious name or carry on with the suggestive imagery. You can see where this is going.

The original title for the band's fourth album was the hilariously rubbish Sons of Beaches, which really doesn't need any explaining. More sensible heads eventually prevailed and the idea was canned, but, if anything, Bon Jovi went too far the other way and gave the album a really boring title instead!

New Jersey? Sure, it's their home state, but really? That's the best they could come up with? Everyone knows that Bruce Springsteen had the Jersey music market cornered years before 1988!

Maybe Sons of Beaches wasn't such a bad idea after all...
