9. UB40 Red Red Wine (DEP International)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BeJ55sUacPM This song may have been originally recorded by Neil Diamond, but UB40 were the group to make it famous in 1983 by transforming it from a gloomy ballad into the reggae-driven tune most of us know best today. In fact, Diamond was so impressed by the UB40 cover that he later played a live version of 'Red Red Wine' that was entirely inspired by it. Although this was recorded for UB40's covers album Labour of Love, it is said that the band didn't actually realise Neil Diamond was the original writer behind this song. Instead, they took their inspiration from yet another rendition by Tony Tribe.
