10 Fantastic Rock Albums That Never Got Made
9. Huey Lewis' Swan Song
For anyone who isn't a fan of Back to the Future, Huey Lewis actually kicked a lot of ass back in their day. Despite what the inherent lameness of Patrick Bateman might tell you, the work of Lewis and the News was a lot more than the disposable pop rock to be found all over '80s radio. Even though Lewis could have easily kept on going with one retro album after the next, it's a crime that he didn't get to end things on his terms.
On a whim this past year, we got a taste of what The News were working on with the album Weather. That is to say...half of an album. About midway through the recording of the record, Huey was diagnosed with chronic hearing loss and would most likely have to end things as soon as possible. Without even realizing it, Weather is the swan song for Huey Lewis, as the News are permanently retired from music at this point.
It stings that much more when this record actually holds up, showing Lewis settling into his older age with ease and reminiscing on what it was like playing music as a kid. Much like nostalgia though, this album is the all too grim reminder that you can never truly go back to where you started.
