10 Fantastic Rock Albums That Never Got Made
3. Get Back - The Beatles
The end of the '60s had started to turn really ugly in the Beatles' world. After the White Album left every member at each other's throats trying to guide them into the next phase of existence, it was definitely time to loosen up a little bit. While Paul McCartney had a novel idea to bring the band back to their roots, Get Back turned into the one album that didn't want to get made.
After coming off of respective vacations, the Fabs were still not on the closest of terms, with video footage of them devolving into petty arguments while trying to get things together. Almost on the verge of a breakup, everyone came together one last time to give their audience a true sendoff, which culminated in Abbey Road just a few months later. In the minds of record executives though, nothing really gets off that easily.
Needing one more album to fulfill their contract, Let It Be became the culmination of the older Get Back that was given the Phil Spector treatment to make them sound finished. Even though it's nice to have this fly on the wall energy to these sessions, songs like Don't Let Me Down showed a cool new direction for the band that we hadn't seen before. For as many classics as they pumped out in just a handful of years, the Get Back project was the one instance where time wasn't on the side of the Beatles.
