10 Fascinating Backstories Behind Famous Rock Band's Names

1. Nobody Knows - Biffy Clyro

Yes, this list is supposed to reveal the origins of famous band names, but this one was so funny that it simply had to be included.

Scottish band Biffy Clyro really started to get big in the year 2007, when their album Puzzle caught fire. Their next album, Only Revolutions, spawned more great songs, including Many of Horror, which bizarrely became a UK number one when it was covered by X-Factor winner Matt Cardle.

Strange times indeed.

The group have quite a distinctive name, which you'd think would have an interesting story attached to it. If it does, then only the band know it, because they've never told anyone where it actually came from.

They've given various answers over the years; that it's the name of a Finnish footballer; that it's based on the spy that inspired James Bond; that it's a spoonerism of "Cliffy Biro", a joke the band had about a Cliff Richard-themed pen.

However, they've never given a definitive backstory to the name.

As frustrating as it would be, it's probably funnier if the band never reveal their secrets. Although hopefully it's the pen one - that's hilarious.
