10 Flawless Rock Songs That Were Never Released On An Album

8. New Divide - Linkin Park

At the turn of the '00s, it wasn't necessarily the best time to be a nu metal band. As most of the scene's teenage fans starting figuring out what an actual problem was, bands like Linkin Park managed to transition over to something that was a lot more in line with traditional alternative rock than the more whiny side of their sound. And even if they had to latch themselves onto the Transformers soundtrack, they managed to make one of the greatest songs of their career in New Divide.

You have to remember that this was also around the time that Linkin Park were going in a bit more of an electronic direction, already being in the process of making the album A Thousand Suns. Whereas that album may have gotten some flak for not being as rock focused as their last few records, New Divide is the perfect marriage of digital and organic, with the keyboard tone being a more aggro version of what we heard on Numb just a few years prior.

This might also be one of Chester's greatest vocal performances that he ever nailed down, leaving the Place For My Head screams at home and just sticking with raw melody to carry him through the rest of the song. Even though the charts were giving way to the club boom around 2009, rock still had some hold on the charts with songs like this leading the way. And any song that's so good that it makes you forget about the CG mush onscreen for a few seconds deserves some level of respect.
