10 Flawless Rock Songs That Were Never Released On An Album
9. In the Mourning - Paramore
Ever since Brand New Eyes, Paramore had been trying to shed their skin of the pop punk tag that had been following them around. For all of those who got on board with albums like Riot!, the next few years of albums like After Laughter were definitely a change of pace, with a focus on keyboards and a brighter polish to the guitar work. There were far more layers to what Paramore were capable of, and the Singles Club gave us a taste of what was ahead on In the Mourning.
Coming from the band that wrote songs like Misery Busines and Crushcrushcrush, hearing them go acoustic is a much better look for them, as Hayley Williams does her best Stevie Nicks impression going through this song. Even with the change in style to more acoustic instruments, the lyrics have a lot more depth this time around as well, as Hayley talks about having to deal with a close friend passing away.
As sad as the subject matter may be, this is not a song that's about wallowing in the pain anymore. Going through the chorus, it's more about being able to process your pain in a healthy way so that you'll be on firmer ground when you have to say goodbye for the last time. It's never easy to lose someone like this, but when you take it day by day, you'll eventually become stronger.
