10 Forgotten 70s Singles You Need To Hear

9. Bob Dylan - Changing Of The Guard (1978)

Go run down a list of Bob Dylan's discography; there's barely a year when he hasn't released something. Of course not all of his releases have been note worthy - Self Portrait (1970) is still a baffling, bizarre record, and the string of Christian albums he released in the early '80s are best avoided - but for every dud, he's had a plethora of classics.

After several less than favourable releases in the early '70s, Dylan won back critics and fans alike with Blood on the Tracks (1975) and Desire (1976). Both of which showed him at his lyrical and musical best. But the wild popularity of those two albums have served to outshine some of his equally brilliant but less universally recognised endeavours.

Street-Legal didn't immediately impress critics. Dylan had assembled a huge band of musicians, with a whole section of female vocalists, adding a call and responce vocal dynamic to the mix. Not everyone found it appealing. Every time Dylan changed direction, he was rebuked for it, only to be praised when the rest of the world caught up to what he was doing. Street-Legal was just another example of this, and the lead single Changing of the Guard is one of Dylan's best.
