10 Forgotten 70s Singles You Need To Hear

6. Bee Gees - You Should Be Dancing (1976)

The '70s conjures up images of feathered hair, flared pants and platform shoes. It was the era when funk beats dominated the realm of pop music. Dance floors were a wash with multicoloured, synchronised lighting, and party goers powdering their noses.

The Bee Gees were the ultimate embodiment of pop music at the time. Their outrageously high voices, coupled with their ability to harmonise with one another, married perfectly with the sound of funk-inspired disco. This was the music of late nights and early mornings.

The Gibb brothers formed the Bee Gees way back in 1958, but they never really found their place in the world of music until disco came along. Trying to listen to a Bee Gees number without dancing is near impossible. Staying Alive will have strutting down the street like a Gallagher brother; Night Fever will give you the urge to at least tap a toe; but nothing will give you confidence to move like You Should Be Dancing - that bass line will have peacocking around like John Travolta.
