10 Forgotten Rock Albums That Need To Be Heard
7. Black Number Nine By Black Number Nine
Another mid-90's classic crying out to be heard. Information on this excellent five-piece is scant, but it is known that front-man, guitarist and singer, Geoff Abraham, who hails from the Boston area, has shared the stage with some top acts, including Aerosmith, The Black Crowes, Bad Company and Alice Cooper.
Abraham is backed here by a line-up of Charlie Leger (guitar, wurlitzer), Dave Curran (piano), Michael Poirier (bass) and Tommy Leger (drums and percussion.) Those names might not be familiar, but they deserve a mention – this self-titled album is a cracker. There's no pretension here, just straight up rock which delights in being exactly what it aspires to be – loud, heavy and raw.
That
said, there's no shortage of style on display. Abraham's snarling
vocals will certainly remind you of Mick Jagger, and are perfectly
suited to the raucous backing. There's a distinct Southern-blues vibe here and, crucially, the songs themselves are full of inventive touches which will keep you coming back.
