10 Funniest Joke Songs In Rock Music
5. All By Myself - Green Day
Across Green Day's landmark major label debut Dookie, you never got the sense that anyone was taking themselves too seriously. Since a lot of the weighty topics were juxtaposed by songs about masturbation and snide adolescent humor, this wasn't exactly going to rival Pink Floyd in terms of mind expanding song topics. As we come to the end of the album with FOD, we get a little bit of an epilogue at the expense of Tre Cool.
While hardened Green Day fans had already gotten a taste of Tre's quirky side on the S&M song Dominated Love Slave off of Kerplunk, All By Myself is a much more twisted way of bringing him into the mix. Coming into play just as the last song starts to fade, Tre picks up Billie Joe Armstrong's guitar and starts singing from what sounds like the perspective of a young guy perving on his crush by breaking into her house.
Lasting only a few seconds, Tre talks about going into this girl's bedroom and looking through her stuff while imagining being with her, complete with Mike Dirnt providing goofy falsetto vocals behind him. For all its twisted parts, All By Myself actually turned into a fan favorite live, with Tre even coming up to front the band for a few minutes during some of the live shows. Even though the tone of Dookie was already pretty goofy, this is the one last jolt of strange before sending us off on our own.
