10 Funniest Joke Songs In Rock Music
4. They're Red Hot - Red Hot Chili Peppers
From day one, you were never really supposed to take the Red Hot Chili Peppers all that seriously. Though they have proven their ability to write some real hard hitting stuff on albums like Californication and By the Way, these are still the same musicians who decided that strutting around onstage naked was a good idea. While Blood Sugar Sex Magik signaled a change for the Peppers, They're Red Hot showed that they were still on their silly s*it.
First of all, the Peppers covering an old blues song alone would have been dead in the water, and yet they found a way to make it their own....at breakneck speed. Compared to the slower and jovial version by Robert Johnson back in the 1920's, the Peppers' take on They're Red Hot feels like the result of drinking 5 cups of coffee before going into record, as Flea and John Frusciante play the song almost like they're racing to the finish.
By the end, it's almost like Anthony Kiedis can barely keep up, focusing on his voice effects so much that the rest of the band almost whiz right past him before he has the chance to get a word out. Seeing how this is the Peppers' magnum opus for many fans though, it's only fitting that they squeeze that little extra bit of silliness before actually bowing out.
